예화랑 GALLERY YEH > 전국 갤러리

1978년에 설립된 예화랑은 한국 갤러리의 역사와 함께 하며, 근 현대 미술사의 중요한 흐름을 보여 주고 있습니다. 갤러리 문화의 시발점 이었던 인사동에서 출발하여1982년 강남 지역에서는 처음으로 오픈 한 갤러리가 되었습니다. 서울 도심 속 강남문화의 시초를 연 예화랑은, 현재 문화, 패션, 푸드, 디자인의 중심이 된 “가로수길”이란 말이 있기 전부터 이 곳에서 순수예술의 대중화를 위하여 노력해 왔습니다.

거대한 캔버스를 연상시키는 예화랑 건축물(2005년 장운규 건축가_ 건축가 그룹운생동)은 2006년 한국건축가협회상, 2006년 한국건축문화대상, 제 24회 서울특별시건축상 2007년 젊은 건축가에게 수여하는 최고 영예이자 세계적인 건축상 AR 어워드를 수상 하였습니다. 1,2,3,층으로 이어지는 시원한 전시 공간 (462㎡)은 현대미술의 다양한 장르를 소화 할 수 있도록 설계 되었으며, 서울의 문화명소로 전세계인들을 모여 들게 하고 있습니다.

예화랑은 갤러리 전시 이외에도 영역의 넓혀 국제적인 전시 기획과 기업과의 다양한 콜라보레이션, 퍼블릭 아트 워크 설치 등 다양한 활동을 시도 하고 있습니다. 40년간 한결같이 한국 미술 발전을 위해 노력 한 것처럼 앞으로도 꾸준히 글로벌 네트워크를 실현 하면서 전문성을 가지고 중요한 예술가들과의 조우와 젊고 장래성 있는 작가들의 발굴에 힘쓸 것이며, 대한민국 미술이 세계문화에 영향을 일으키며 더욱더 앞으로 나아갈 수 있도록 새로운 도전을 이루어 나갈 것 입니다.

 Founded in 1978, GALLERY YEH stands amidst the Korean gallery history and shows the main trend of modern and contemporary art. Commencing its journey from Insa-Dong in which the Korean galleries began to form, Gallery Yeh moved to Gangnam in 1982 and became the first gallery in the history of Gangnam. Downtown Gangnam and Garosu-Gil, where the gallery is located, is the hub for art, culture, fashion, food and design where visitors experience Seoul’s dynamic culture. Even before the name Garosu-gil was established and subsequently became a symbol of such culture, GALLERY YEH as a forerunner has endeavored for sharing fine art culture with the general public.

 The gallery building, reminiscent of a gigantic canvas, received the Korean Institute of Architects Award in 2006, the Korean Architecture Award and the 24th Seoul Architecture Award in 2006, and the AR Award for emerging Architecture in 2007, a world-class architecture award and the highest honor for young architects. The gallery space, composed of three stories(462㎡), is designed for displaying various genres of contemporary art and attracts people from all around the world as cultural attraction.

GALLERY YEH is attempting various activities encompassing not only exhibitions in the gallery space but also international curatorial exhibitions, collaborations with global companies and installations of public art works. As GALLERY YEH has been consistently trying to develop the Korean art community for 40 years, we promise to deliver our best with a high level of professionalism, working with renowned contemporary artists as well as young, talented artists with global networking. We will continue to thrive to introduce the Korean contemporary art all around the globe and hopefully grant the opportunity to appreciate Korean art to as many people as possible.
